Team SD Worx-Protime continued their good start to the season as Lorena Wiebes sprinted to a brilliant victory at the Classic Brugge-De Panne. The Dutch sprinter outpaced her rivals in a chaotic final to claim her 99th win.

"It was a hectic day, but I’m so happy with how the team worked today. The whole race was nerve-wracking, but Barbara Guarischi positioned me perfectly for the final. I started my sprint early—it was a bit of a gamble—but I had good legs and could finish it off. This race was already on my palmares after Jolien D'Hoore got relegated in 2020, but I'm happy I can win it for real & really add it to my palmares."

"I got a bit boxed in in the sprint, but in races like this, you often find a gap. It was nice that one team took the lead, especially after all the crashes yesterday. It made things smoother and a bit more safer. I'm happy the race went well and that I could finish it off!"

General manager Erwin Janssen was equally delighted with the result. "It’s fantastic! Last year, we couldn’t compete here, so we were determined to get a great result today. With Lorena, you know you’re seriously in the mix, but these sprints are always hectic, and you have to execute it well. The team delivered perfectly today."

Looking ahead to Sunday’s Gent-Wevelgem, where Wiebes and Lotte Kopecky will lead the team, Janssen added: "We’ll have another strong team at the start. Both Lorena and Lotte can win that race, so we’re excited to see how it plays out. We’re ready to fight for hopefully another nice result."

Wiebes herself is motivated for Gent-Wevelgem: "I hope there’s some wind on Sunday—it’ll make for a great race. It’s already been a strong spring for the team, and I think we can achieve even more."
