Nienke Vinke signs three-year contract with Team SD Worx – Protime

Team SD Worx – Protime has strengthened its roster with young Dutch talent Nienke Vinke. The winner of the young rider classification in the Tour de France Femmes has signed a three-year contract and will join the team on 1 January 2026. “We see Nienke as a rider who can develop into a GC contender in the major stage races in the coming years, but also as someone capable of achieving strong results in the Ardennes classics,” says sports director Danny Stam.

Team SD Worx-Protime has strengthened its roster with Valentina Cavallar. The 24-year-old Austrian signs a contract until 2028. Previously, she competed as a rower at the Tokyo Olympic Games. The Tour de France Femmes inspired her to fully pursue a cycling career. In her first professional season (2024), she quickly achieved some remarkable results, including the mountain jersey at Itzulia, an 8th place in the overall classification in Burgos, and strong climbing performances in the Tour. “I hope to become a more complete rider at Team SD Worx-Protime and to keep learning. It would be amazing to participate in the Olympic Games again in 2028, but this time as a cyclist.”

The queen stage of this year’s Tour de Suisse Women featured over 2 200 m of climbing. Anna van der Breggen will not start today's second stage of Itzulia Women. She is still too much affected by her heavy fall in the final of the first stage. After the fall, she did manage to reach the finish in Agurain on Friday. This morning it was examined whether she could still continue Itzulia Women, but in consultation with the team's medical staff it was decided that it would be wiser for the former world champion not to continue the race.

Lorena Wiebes made the podium in Paris-Roubaix. The European champion, along with teammate Lotte Kopecky, had been caught in the chase after a solo attack by Pauline Ferrand-Prévot. Spurred on by the world champion, they tried to chase the Frenchwoman, but Ferrand-Prévot eventually proved the strongest and arrived solo. Lorena Wiebes sprinted to third place after Letizia Borghesi had escaped. ‘I had cramps in the last kilometres, so I couldn't react to the late breakaways. I had to and would finish third in the final sprint. After all the team's work, I really couldn't afford to finish fourth.’

After an exciting final, Lorena Wiebes won Milan-Sanremo in grand style. After 20 years, the Italian classic returned to the women's calendar. Team SD Worx - Protime played a strong team tactics in the final with Lotte Kopecky and Lorena Wiebes in the lead. Throughout the day, Team SD Worx - Protime had good control of the race. On the Cipressa, Blanka Vas, Lorena Wiebes and Lotte Kopecky were always attentive at the front. On the Poggio, Wiebes turned into the descent of the illustrious climb in fifth position. In the streets of Sanremo, there was another ultimate attack by Elisa Longo Borghini. World champion Lotte Kopecky had to go to extremes to catch the Italian back, launching the sprint for Wiebes. Anna van der Breggen immediately rides to beautiful second place in first WorldTour race

In a tough Strade Bianche, Team SD Worx-Protime coloured the race. The Dutch Worldteam opened the debates at 47 kilometres from the line by sending a pawn on the attack with Femke Gerritse. The gap was closed between Colle Pinzatu and Le Tolfe, after which Anna van der Breggen placed an acceleration on Le Tolfe. Together with Demi Vollering, she reached the top, after which the former world champion had to let Demi Vollering go on the Via Santa Catarina in the streets of Siena. ‘I am very satisfied with this result. In the second stage of the UAE Tour, the echelon battle prevailed from the start. Immediately after the official start was given, the echelon war started. Lorena Wiebes slipped in last in a group of five just at the right moment. The peloton stayed at about 20 seconds for a long time, but at the front they worked well together and the five stayed in front. Good for the fastest stage ever in the Women's WorldTour: 48.4 kilometres per hour average. In the sprint Wiebes reigned supreme, taking her 50th win in the WorldTour only. She has a total of 95 wins now. Laura Stigger combines road cycling at Team SD Worx-Protime with mountain bike cross-country at Specialized Factory Racing Team 

With Laura Stigger, Team SD Worx-Protime has secured the latest reinforcement for 2025. The 24-year-old Austrian has signed a contract for 1 year. Stigger has so far excelled in mountain bike cross-country, but has also shown her talent on the road in the past. At the 2018 World Road Cycling Championships in Innsbruck, she took the world junior title. ‘It was super special to immediately take the world title in my own region at my first real introduction to the road. I am now curious to see what I am worth in the elite category on the road. Chantal van den Broek - Blaak wants to show red-white-blue in her final year

In 2025, Chantal van den Broek - Blaak will be with Team SD Worx - Protime for the 11th year. In 2015, the Zuid-Hollandse joined the then Boels-Dolmans formation. Gian Paolo Mondini becomes sports director at Team SD Worx-Protime

Gian Paolo Mondini is making the move to team leadership at Team SD Worx-Protime after 14 years at Specialized. The role is new for Mondini, but the 52-year-old Italian breathes cycling. After several years as a professional cyclist, Mondini pursued university studies in psychology, then at Specialized he was the point of contact for professional cycling teams and riders. "My different backgrounds come together nicely in this new role. I will be a good motivator. I also want to give the riders extra guidance on material. After four wins in five stages, the Simac Ladies Tour was already a downright success for Dutch WorldTeam SD Worx-Protime, but Lotte Kopecky provided the icing on the cake. After kilometres of teamwork to catch back the breakaway rider Silke Smulders (Liv AlUla Jayco), the world champion sprinted to victory, ahead of teammate Lorena Wiebes who ensured Kopecky won, grabbing the necessary bonification seconds to also win the general classification. Lotte Kopecky suffers no fractures from Simac Ladies Tour crash

Lotte Kopecky crashed hard in the fifth stage of the Simac Ladies Tour. However, the world champion was able to reach the finish line under her own power, after which she was examined by the team doctor. The examination revealed no symptoms and complaints consistent with a concussion. Kopecky did suffer several abrasions in addition to some bruises. We will wait to see how the night and morning go before deciding whether or not she will start tomorrow.

The stage in and around Zeewolde was dominated from start to finish by Team SD Worx-Protime. The Dutch World team broke up the peloton after 56 kilometres and was therefore present with seven riders in the leading group of 22. The red carpet was rolled out for Lorena Wiebes, who beat everyone in the sprint for the second day in a row. Lotte Kopecky made it a 1-3 by finishing third on the podium after giving Lorena a perfect lead-out. In doing so, she amassed important seconds for the general classification. ‘This was a very nice day in which the entire team did a great job. It's special to get such a win with the team,’ said winner Lorena Wiebes.

With Lotte Kopecky and Demi Vollering in the first two places in the final classification, Team SD Worx-Protime dominated the Tour of Romandy. In the final stage on Swiss territory, Niamh Fisher-Black tactically placed the team in a seat with a monster sixty-kilometre breakaway with Riejanne Markus. The two stayed away, before Fisher-Black was beaten by Markus in the sprint. Lotte Kopecky finished third behind the two early attackers in the final stage to secure the overall victory. Demi Vollering was involved in a multi-rider crash in the final kilometres, but was awarded the same time as Kopecky's group at the finish. Vollering, who won the queen's stage on Saturday, thus managed to keep her second place in the standings.

Immediately after the finish, the winner was not yet known. For that, the jury first had to carefully study the photo finish. Mischa Bredewold strikes again and takes second consecutive stage win in Itzulia

Mischa Bredewold managed to claim the stage win in Itzulia for the second consecutive day. In the second stage, Marlen Reusser and Demi Vollering together with Elise Chabbey got in the front about 35 kilometers from the line. A regrouping ensued, after which Juliette Labous and Mavi Garcia went on the attack. Mischa Bredewold countered and joined the two escapees at 11 kilometers from the line. Anna Shackley is forced to quit top-level sport

Anna Shackley is to quit top-level sport based on the results of several medical tests. She was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia in January. Following this, she underwent a heart screening in Maxima Medisch Centrum in Veldhoven in collaboration with the SD Worx-Protime's medical team. Here, several irregularities were found. Blanka Vas colors World Cup in Hoogerheide and comes second after strong performance

Blanka Kata Vas showed in Hoogerheide with a rock-solid performance that she is ready for the cyclocross world championships. Marlen Reusser lived up to her favourites role. With an average speed of 49.828 kilometres per hour, she steamed to her third consecutive European time trial title in Emmen. Silver medallist Anna Henderson followed at 43 seconds, third Caroline Schweinberger at 44 seconds. Defined European champion it is then called. "That I realise the hat-trick is very special. Demi Vollering is all the way back after a bad cold knocked her out of the Simac Ladies Tour. In the queen stage in the Tour de Romandie, she was alone in front with Kasia Niewiadoma. Demi Vollering is leaving the Simac Ladies Tour due to illness. The Dutch road champion is suffering from a bad cold. It was therefore decided not to start in Valkenburg for the fourth stage of the Dutch stage race as a precaution. Vollering normally still rides Tour de Romandie (15-17 September) and the time trial (20 September) and the road race at the European Championships (23 October) this season. "Demi was not feeling super in the past few days, but tried to push on. But now that it turns out she is sick, resting is the only right choice. Lotte Kopecky came, saw and conquered. The 27-year-old Belgian was pushed into the role of top favourite beforehand and she lived up to it. Just over five kilometres from the finish, she flew away from Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig uphill and raced to the world title. Seven seconds after Kopecky, Demi Vollering took the silver medal. Kopecky made history by giving her country Belgium another gold in the World Road Championship exactly half a century after Nicole van den Broek. The highlight in a week in which she had previously captured two world titles on the track. "2023 is a fantastic year on the one hand, but at the same time also very tough. The Strade Bianche was Demi Vollering's first major victory in 2023. She never dared to dream that so many beautiful major victories and places of honour would follow afterwards. We are surprised that the UCI imposes this penalty, but accept this measure. Perhaps in the first moment we reacted a little too emotionally to Demi Vollering's time penalty. Too bad this happened. Successful Giro Donne for Team SD Worx with two wins and two podium finishes

With two stage wins and as many podium places, Team SD Worx experienced a successful Giro Donne. Lorena Wiebes won a bunch sprint and showed she has also made huge strides in climbing. Niamh Fisher-Black finished third in the queen stage. Blanka Vas recorded a breakthrough win in Italy and Anna Shackley showed she is back after months of injury. "Three weeks after her victory in the Tour de Suisse, Blanka Vas has proven to be completely back at the front with a stage win in the Giro Donne. In the first stage of the Italian round in Sardinia, the Hungarian champion managed to win the sprint from a group of about 25 riders. In the tricky sixth stage with an uphill finish, Lorena Wiebes proved once again that she can do more than just sprint. The European champion remained continuously in the front ranks until Annemiek van Vleuten made the decisive acceleration uphill. In the chasing group, Wiebes then rode everyone off the wheel on the final slope, good for a neat second place. "I already knew a slightly uphill finish suited me, but this one was still pretty long (800m at8%). Lotte Kopecky & Team SD Worx have coloured the start of the classic season. In Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Lotte Kopecky rode impressively up the Muur van Geraardsbergen, before going solo after the Bosberg. Amy Pieters must deal with setbacks

It ‘s been quiet around Amy Pieters for a while and there are reasons for that. Her rehabilitation can sometimes go less good. This is mainly due to a number of setbacks that she had to deal with. Pieters has had several epileptic seizures in a short period of time that slowed down her recovery.

Women's cycling experienced another milestone last year with the first Tour de France Femmes. Never before had a race given women's cycling such a boost. The best cycling team in the UCI ranking, Team SD Worx, seized this first Tour de France Femmes to make a unique documentary. At training camps, at the riders' homes, during the recons of stages and throughout the lap, a camera crew was given complete freedom to follow the team 'behind the scenes'.

Marlen Reusser is European ITT champion for the second consecutive time

Marlen Reusser has extended her European time trial title. The 30-year-old Swiss took off like a rocket and was the fastest over the 24 kilometre course with an average speed of 46.45 km per hour. Marlen Reusser must continue to take a break after her concussion

A week after her fall in the Tour de France Femmes, Marlen is feeling a little better. The concussion she sustained in the fall is slowly easing, but the silver medallist of the Tokyo Olympics is still easily fatigued, suffers from headaches when exerting herself and can currently only train on the rollers in a light and darkened room.  Racing would be pointless and Marlen and Team SD Worx have therefore decided to cancel the planned start in Vargarda (6 and 7 August) and in the Tour of Scandinavia (9 - 14 August). Her next race is the European Championships in Munich, scheduled for 18 - 21 August. "I am still recovering from my concussion. I wish my teammates all the success and fun in the Team Time Trial. Thank you for all the kind messages. I hope to compete again at the European Championships to defend my title in time trial."

Lorena Wiebes signs a 3-year contract with Team SD Worx

Lorena Wiebes will be joining Team SD Worx next season. The 23-year old sprint star has signed a three year contract (2023-2025) with the Dutch team. Due to a clause in her contract with her current team, Team DSM, she could leave earlier if she received an improved offer from another team. Team DSM and Team SD Worx reached an agreement on the transfer after joint consultation.

Demi Vollering was the only one who could stay in the track of an unleashed Annemiek Van Vleuten on the Petit Ballon. The latter imposed a murderous pace, after which Vollering had to let her go a col further on at one kilometer from the top of the Platzerwasel. The 25-year old rider of Team SD Worx then rode to a second place in the stage and in the general classification. She also takes over the mountain jersey. In Rosheim, Team SD Worx rode to a fourth place on the podium in this Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Lotte Kopecky was involved in a crash at about 22.5km from the finish, after which she sprinted to third place after Marianne Vos and Marta Bastianelli. "There was more in it for me. I got a bit boxed in, so I couldn't do my sprint fully," said the 26-year-old Belgian rider.

Marlen Reusser will not start in the seventh stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. A hospital examination revealed that the 30-year-old Swiss rider suffered a concussion after her crash in the sixth stage at 22 kilometres from the finish. Rest is therefore necessary to recover. Reusser was an important link in the Team SD Worx team. Last Wednesday she won the stage to Saint-Dié-Des-Vosgues.

In the third stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, the women of the classification were already battling it out in the hilly Champagne region. After the Côte de Mutigny, 15 kilometres from the finish, Team SD Worx was well represented at the front with Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and Demi Vollering in a group of seven. In the descent of this climb Vollering collapsed due to gravel on the road, but she was able to rejoin the front quite quickly. In the end Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio sprinted to third place in Epernay. "This is encouraging for what is to come," she says.

Our rider Amy Pieters had just before Christmas an unfortunate crash during a training ride on the bicycle with the Dutch national selection in Spain. She suffered severe brain damage and fell into a coma. In Spain she was immediately operated and we feared for her life. The first weeks have been very difficult for her and her loved ones. But thankfully Amy is still here!

Demi Vollering opens Itzulia with a win and the leader's jersey

Itzulia Women heralded the start of the second part of the season. The multi-day stage race began with a difficult opening stage, which was convincingly won by Demi Vollering. The Dutch rider was always to be seen at the front in the decisive moments of the race. She finished it off in an uphill sprint after a breakaway with Pauliena Rooijakkers and Kristen Faulkner. "This finish suited me, this gives a very good feeling," Vollering said in an initial reaction.

Demi Vollering finishes third in Liège-Bastogne-Liège

Team SD Worx finished the spring season with fifteen podium finishes, five of which were victories. In Liège-Bastogne-Liège Demi Vollering and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio finished in third and fourth place, just like in the Flèche Wallonne. Annemiek van Vleuten proved to be the strongest and finished solo. "We couldn't close the gap on the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons. Unfortunately I missed some freshness," Demi Vollering said honestly afterwards.

REPORT: Demi Vollering finishes third in tough Flèche Wallonne

In the Flèche Wallonne Demi Vollering signed for Team SD Worx's 14th podium spot this season. The team always had control of the race in the first Ardennes classic. Despite the redrawn finale, the decision fell once again on the final climb of the Mur de Huy. There Marta Cavalli eventually won the duel with Annemiek van Vleuten. Demi Vollering finished third ten seconds later. "This was a really tough race, I'm completely empty," was Vollering's first reaction.

The 2022 season is so far a dream year for Lotte Kopecky. Demi Vollering wins omnipotent in Brabantse Pijl

Team SD Worx strikes again. In a rainy and difficult Brabantse Pijl it was Demi Vollering who triumphed. With 30km to go, Vollering went on the attack with Pauliena Rooijakkers. With an ultimate acceleration on the Moskesstraat, Vollering also threw her only remaining competitor overboard. After a solo of about ten kilometres, Vollering triumphed, opening her account this season. "It's a really good feeling to have our first win."

Team SD Worx coloured the Amstel Gold Race, but due to a surprising attack by Marta Cavalli on the spur of the Cauberg 1.7 kilometres from the finish, Demi Vollering had to settle for second place for the second year in a row. After the Strade Bianche, Lotte Kopecky won her second major victory in less than a month with the Tour of Flanders. The Belgian champion defeated Annemiek van Vleuten in Oudenaarde and thus has the Tour of Flanders, her dream race and first monument, in her pocket. The 26-year-old rider worked coolly through a sophisticated team plan, with a starring role for Chantal van de Broek-Blaak, who completed the podium. "I don't realise it yet. REPORT: 4th place for Kopecky in Gent-Wevelgem

In Gent-Wevelgem, just like in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda and Brugge-De Panne, Team SD Worx had to be satisfied with a fourth place. The race was again hard fought, each time with attacks from the Team SD Worx camp, but in the end it was a sprint for the victory. Lotte Kopecky fell just short of the podium and finished after Elisa Balsamo, Marianne Vos and Maria Confalonieri. "I came into the wind too early and lacked speed," said the Belgian champion.

Brugge - De Panne had a chaotic finale with a massive crash 15km from the end. Lonneke Uneken, the spearhead of Team SD Worx in the fourth WorldTour race of the year, was held up by this, so it took her energy to get back in the right position for the sprint. "Sad that I miss the podium," the 22-year-old Dutch rider said afterwards.

Numerical majority leads to places of honor in Trofeo Binda

Team SD Worx returned from the Trofeo Binda with a good feeling. In the third WorldTour race of the year, Chantal van den Broek-Blaak and Elena Cecchini finished fourth and fifth respectively. While world champion Elisa Bolsamo claimed victory in her home country, the team is disappointed that it was unable to catch the sprinters on the final lap.

In the Ronde van Drenthe Team SD Worx once again put in a strong performance, but also had some bad luck. No less than five flat tires and a worn out chain caused the team to lose energy early on, nevertheless the final was once again colored by Team SD Worx. Lotte Kopecky - who punctured herself about 15 kilometers from the line - finished third in the sprint. "Unfortunately I lost the right wheel in the sprint," said the Belgian champion.

First victory for Team SD Worx and Lonneke Uneken in Bloeizone Fryslân Tour

The stage was locked in for a long time, as the wind was not strong enough to create fans, but after the first passage of the local lap the peloton broke into pieces. Team SD Worx did not miss the train and was fully in front. The peloton would sprint for the win. Elena Cecchini provided a clever lead out and Lonneke Uneken finished it off. The first win of the season is a special one. "After a very difficult period, I'm very happy about this," Lonneke Uneken said. "This victory is for Amy. I hope it can give her and her family some strength."

The first Worldtour race is just around the corner with Strade Bianche. After an extremely successful 2021, expectations for Team SD Worx are high. Last year many important races were won and the season ended in a convincing first place in the UCI ranking. However, last winter multiple winner Anna van der Breggen traded in her bike for the team car. Nevertheless, Team SD Worx will not start the race dismantled. "Certainly not, we are very strong across the board. This season you won't be able to get around us either," assures sporting director Danny Stam.

Chantal van den Broek-Blaak to continue as a rider until 2024

Chantal van den Broek-Blaak has reconsidered her earlier decision to stop cycling after the spring of 2022. The 32-year-old former world champion has now decided that she will continue as a rider until the end of 2024. She did also indicate that she may have to take a break at some point as she is planning to have children. The Team SD Worx management welcomes Blaak's proposal and is looking forward to keeping her on the team.

Demi Vollering's contract with Team SD Worx has been renegotiated and extended until the end of 2024. Vollering's victories in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, La Course and the Women's Tour last season have shown that she is one of the best cyclists in the peloton.

Update Amy Pieters

Rider Amy Pieters is still being treated at a Dutch hospital after a fall during a training session in Spain right before Christmas several weeks ago. The Pieters family has received many questions about her condition, but for now they can report little change and they see the situation as uncertain. The cyclist is breathing independently, but is currently still unconscious.

Insurance company Yuzzu becomes an important sponsor of Team SD Worx as from next season.
