‘I still feel a bit in a different world,’ Bredewold looked back. ‘It was a very tough stage with a very tough sprint. I can only thank my team. Mikayla Harvey and Steffi Häberlin did a great job in the final kilometres. And of course Marie Schreiber and Marta Lach at the beginning. I am speechless. They did so incredibly well. I owe everything to them.’
As a result, the team manages to take the 100 per cent score at Itzulia Women to 11 wins. Already eleven stages in a row, since the stage race in the Basque Country became WorldTour, Team SD Worx-Protime is unbeaten.
In the leader's jersey, Bredewold nevertheless did not have an easy day with the many attacks from the competition. ‘Steffi and I both struggled on the second climb. Yesterday I felt a bit better than today. But luckily we came back. Then it was just full throttle, working, jumping, all the time.’
With two stage wins under her belt and a minute lead, Bredewold is looking forward to stage 3. Although she also acknowledges that this is the tough queen stage. It's going to be a challenge to defend the leader's jersey there.
‘It will definitely be the hardest stage. I mean, of course we're going to try, that's no secret, but it's going to be very, very difficult. There are some girls who are incredibly strong on the climbs, so I need an extremely good day tomorrow to have a chance, so we'll see.’
