Lotte Kopecky succeeds herself as world champion after thrilling race

Lotte Kopecky is elite world champion for the second consecutive year. The 28-year-old Belgian from Team SD Worx-Protime was the fastest in the final sprint ahead of Chloe Dygert and Elisa Longo-Borghini. On the tricky Zurich course, however, she had to chase several times, but each time Kopecky fought her way back into the title race. After which she sprinted grandiosely back into the rainbow jersey.

Kopecky and Vollering one and two in Tour of Romandy, Fisher-Black second in final stage

With Lotte Kopecky and Demi Vollering in the first two places in the final classification, Team SD Worx-Protime dominated the Tour of Romandy. In the final stage on Swiss territory, Niamh Fisher-Black tactically placed the team in a seat with a monster sixty-kilometre breakaway with Riejanne Markus. The two stayed away, before Fisher-Black was beaten by Markus in the sprint. Lotte Kopecky finished third behind the two early attackers in the final stage to secure the overall victory. Demi Vollering was involved in a multi-rider crash in the final kilometres, but was awarded the same time as Kopecky's group at the finish. Vollering, who won the queen's stage on Saturday, thus managed to keep her second place in the standings.

Double success for Team SD Worx-Protime in Tour de Romandie with Vollering and Kopecky

Team SD Worx-Protime completely dominated the queen stage of the Tour de Romandie. When the leading group remained with five on the final climb, the Dutch Worldteam still had three riders in it with Demi Vollering, Lotte Kopecky and Niamh Fisher-Black. On Gaia Realini's attack, Demi Vollering responded immediately, after which only Lotte Kopecky could follow. The two champions then fought it out in a sprint for the day's victory. ‘It was very close. I thought I had already dropped Lotte, but suddenly she came alongside me. In the first stage of the Tour de Romandie, Team SD Worx-Protime controlled the race. Femke Markus has extended her contract with Team SD Worx - Protime by two years until the end of 2026. She joined the team new in 2023 and has developed into a regular during that period. Team SD Worx-Protime has completely won Itzulia for the third time in a row. In the final stage, Demi Vollering accelerated on the final climb 30 kilometers from the line. The Dutch champion shook her longest solo ever out of her legs and triumphed in San Sebastian.Thus, she places her victory counter in Itzulia at six victories and two overall wins. With that, Team SD Worx-Protime remains undefeated in Itzulia. “To win every stage for three years in a row is historic. I am incredibly happy with this win. To win with such a solo is memorable,” said Demi Vollering.

Mischa Bredewold strikes again and takes second consecutive stage win in Itzulia

Mischa Bredewold managed to claim the stage win in Itzulia for the second consecutive day. In the second stage, Marlen Reusser and Demi Vollering together with Elise Chabbey got in the front about 35 kilometers from the line. A regrouping ensued, after which Juliette Labous and Mavi Garcia went on the attack. Mischa Bredewold countered and joined the two escapees at 11 kilometers from the line. The cooperation at the front was perfect, after which the European champion was too fast for her fellow breakaway riders in the sprint. “It's very special to win twice in a row. After a less classic spring, the ball seems to be rolling for me now,” said Mischa Bredewold.

Mischa Bredewold sprints to victory in Itzulia

Team SD Worx-Protime took control of the first stage in Itzulia and took the victory with Mischa Bredewold. Marlen Reusser piloted Demi Vollering and Mischa Bredewold towards the final hundreds of meters, after which Demi Vollering did a super lead-out for Bredewold. She put the icing on the cake by winning the sprint. Vollering finished third. Thus Team SD Worx-Protime remains undefeated so far in Itzulia Basqua country. “It is an honor to continue the victory series of Demi Vollering and Marlen Reusser of 2023 and 2022,” said Bredewold, who also received the first leader's jersey.

Marlen Reusser wants to defend overall victory in Itzulia

Marlen Reusser started the season like a rocket with a stage and overall victory in the Tour of Valencia. After a Covid infection and a bad crash in the Tour of Flanders, the Swiss hard rider had to draw a line under her classical ambitions. The Vuelta Femenina was her reappearance and now she is ready to defend her overall victory in Itzulia. “I feel I made serious strides in the Vuelta. My goals remain unchanged: I am aiming for classification wins in the Tour de Suisse and the Giro Donne. In Itzulia I want to get confirmation that my form is okay again. If the opportunity presents itself, I would like to go for the overall win here as well.”

Vollering supreme to overall victory La Vuelta

Demi Vollering has won La Vuelta Femenina with a supreme performance in the final stage. The Dutch champion of Team SD Worx - Protime attacked in the mountain stage on the final col at 6.3 kilometres from the finish and still managed to build a lead of 1'49 over Riejanne Markus in the GC. This enabled her to take the final classification on her name. After her final victory in the Tour de France Femmes last year, this is the second Grand Tour that Vollering takes to her name.

Anna Shackley is forced to quit top-level sport

Anna Shackley is to quit top-level sport based on the results of several medical tests. She was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia in January. Following this, she underwent a heart screening in Maxima Medisch Centrum in Veldhoven in collaboration with the SD Worx-Protime's medical team. Here, several irregularities were found. That was the reason to immediately take her off the bike and do more extensive tests and procedures at the hospital in Barcelona near her hometown. All this time, Shackley (22) did not train or compete in races.

Christine Majerus hopes for first win with team at Paris-Roubaix

Paris-Roubaix is still missing from Team SD Worx-Protime's palmares. Each of the past three editions, the classic literally proved to be the Hell of the North for the Dutch Worldteam. It hasn't affected Christine Majerus's fondness for the cobbled classic. The Luxembourg native hopes the race slogan "l'enfer mène au paradis" (hell leads to paradise) will come true for her team at the Roubaix Vélodrome in 2024. "In this classic, on the one hand you have to do everything right technically, but you also need a dose of luck. Hopefully as a team we can add Paris-Roubaix to our list of honors this year."

Team SD Worx-Protime had to cancel today for this Thursday's Classic Brugge-De Panne. The team has a number of riders struggling with injuries. In addition, some important riders are at a training camp. Lotte Kopecky sprinted to second place in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. The world champion accelerated on the Muur and the Bosberg, reducing the leading group to four riders, a Lidl-Trek duo (Elisa Longo-Borghini & Shirin Van Anrooij) and Marianne Vos. Lidl-Trek alternately attacked, after which Kopecky invariably responded to the counters. In the sprint, the world champion was second after Marianne Vos. "I did everything I could and rode quite a good race, but Marianne was just faster in the end," said an honest Kopecky.

World champion Lotte Kopecky has opened up her contract with Team SD Worx - Protime and extended it through 2028. In the negotiations, the team and rider reached an agreement fairly quickly. Over the past two seasons, Kopecky, in the colors of Team SD Worx - Protime, achieved fantastic successes including the world road title in Glasgow, the Ronde van Vlaanderen twice, Strade Bianche, the points classification and a stage in the Tour de France Femmes and multiple world and European titles on the track.

Blanka Kata Vas showed in Hoogerheide with a rock-solid performance that she is ready for the cyclocross world championships. The European championships mark a wonderful end to the crazy road season for Team SD Worx. The European champion will also ride with the Dutch World team next year. Marlen Reusser lived up to her favourites role. With an average speed of 49.828 kilometres per hour, she steamed to her third consecutive European time trial title in Emmen. Silver medallist Anna Henderson followed at 43 seconds, third Caroline Schweinberger at 44 seconds. Defined European champion it is then called. "That I realise the hat-trick is very special. Every time you have to fight for that jersey again. I am happy to wear it for another year," said Marlen Reusser.

Demi Vollering is leaving the Simac Ladies Tour due to illness. The Dutch road champion is suffering from a bad cold. Marie Schreiber impresses in her first WorldTour races

Marie Schreiber has had a real baptism of fire as an elite star. The 20-year-old Luxembourger rode her first WorldTour races as an elite rider in Vuelta Femenina, Itzulia Women and Vuelta a Burgos. "It was an intense racing block. I feel I made a lot of progression. My teammates pushed me to go to the limit and redirected me in the races. That's how I got better every day," Schreiber looks back.

Demi Vollering and Team SD Worx continue to make history. After the Dutch WorldTeam took all stages and the overall win in the Spanish WorldTour race Itzulia, it does the same trick again in Vuelta a Burgos. Atop Lagunas de Neila, there was no limit to Demi Vollering, who managed to win the final stage of the Vuelta a Burgos for the second year in a row. The WorldTour leader thus also convincingly takes the overall victory. "The winner takes it all. This was the team's perfect race. They brought me perfectly to the foot of the climb, after which I finished it."

Lorena Wiebes crowns rock-solid team performance with phenomenal win after long sprint

The third stage of Vuelta a Burgos to Aranda de Duero was announced in advance as a sprint stage. An early breakaway held on for a long time, but after a kilometre-long chase by Team SD Worx, Lorena Wiebes was still able to play up her speed. The European champion had to start her final sprint from afar and impressively held out until the finish line. So a phenomenal win for Lorena Wiebes and Team SD Worx. "It was very exciting, but the team was ironclad again today," Wiebes said.

Demi Vollering wins echelon stage Vuelta a Burgos after disqualification of Lorena Wiebes

Spectacle from the start in the second stage of Vuelta a Burgos. In a stage where the wind took it right away to the side, Team SD Worx dictated the race. The Dutch WorldTeam had four riders in the front with Demi Vollering, Lorena Wiebes, Marlen Reusser and Blanka Vas. Together with Trek-Segafredo, Team SD Worx further thinned out the leading group. Lorena Wiebes then sprinted to victory, ahead of teammate Demi Vollering. Due to a disqualification of the European champion, Vollering took the win. "It is unfortunate that Lorena missed out on the win like that, but fortunately we still win the stage as well as doing a good job for the general classification," sports manager Danny Stam takes stock.

Lotte Kopecky celebrates return to competition with sprint victory in Veenendaal-Veenendaal

19 May 2023 is a historic day for Team SD Worx. In less than an hour's difference, the Dutch WorldTeam won two races in a row. Inspired by the sprint success of her teammates in Spain, Lotte Kopecky sprinted convincingly to victory in Veenendaal-Veenendaal (1.1). For the 27-year-old Belgian, it was her first race since the Amstel Gold Race. "It's a nice entry. Immediate success in the second part of the season. It's extra nice to win another sprint. This is good for confidence."

Lorena Wiebes sprints supremely to win opening stage of Vuelta a Burgos

After more than a month without races, Lorena Wiebes immediately showed her class as a sprint star again. In Vuelta a Burgos, the European champion made her first appearance since the Amstel Gold Race. In a windy stage, there was no limit to her sprinting speed. Team SD Worx has already recorded 20 victories by mid-May, equalling last year's number of wins. After the team completely dominated the stage race Itzulia last week, sports manager Danny Stam now hopes to compete for prizes in the Tour of Burgos as well. Demi Vollering also reigns supreme in the Basque Country in 2023. After winning all the stages of Itzulia last year, she remains unbeaten this season too. Team SD Worx heading for La Vuelta Feminina with multiple goals

After a fantastic spring for Team SD Worx, the first stage race presents itself with La Vuelta Feminina. That also means the teams will start with seven riders for the first time this season. For Team SD Worx, they are Demi Vollering, Marlen Reusser, Elena Cecchini, Niamh Fisher-Black, Blanka Vas, Femke Markus and newcomer Marie Schreiber. "We have a nice mix of experience and talent at the start. Six years after Anna van der Breggen, Demi Vollering became the second woman to achieve the Ardennes trilogy. After winning the Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallonne, the Team SD Worx rider was now also the best in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. "This was the most difficult of the three. Marlen Reusser extends contract up to 2024 with Team SD Worx

Amy Pieters must deal with setbacks

It ‘s been quiet around Amy Pieters for a while and there are reasons for that. Her rehabilitation can sometimes go less good. This is mainly due to a number of setbacks that she had to deal with. Pieters has had several epileptic seizures in a short period of time that slowed down her recovery.

Documentary on first Tour de France Femmes for Team SD Worx

Women's cycling experienced another milestone last year with the first Tour de France Femmes. Never before had a race given women's cycling such a boost. The best cycling team in the UCI ranking, Team SD Worx, seized this first Tour de France Femmes to make a unique documentary. At training camps, at the riders' homes, during the recons of stages and throughout the lap, a camera crew was given complete freedom to follow the team 'behind the scenes'.

Marie Schreiber has signed a three-year contract with Team SD Worx. The 19-year-old Luxembourger will ride cyclocross races for her current team, Tormans Cyclo Cross Team, until the end of February. Schreiber has already joined Team SD Worx's training camp in Denia, Spain.

Team SD Worx wins UCI World Tour for sixth time in seven years as number 1 in UCI ranking

Sovereignly, Team SD Worx defended the number one position in the UCI rankings for teams last season. For the sixth time in seven years, the team also managed to win the WorldTour classification. Sports director Lars Boom sees Blanka Vas victorious in kermiscross in Ardooie

Blanka Kata Vas won the kermiscross of Ardooie. The Hungarian champion separated herself from Shirin Van Anrooij after just one lap, then wisely arranged the cross and then rushed to the finish alone. "I realised pretty quickly that Blanka was the strongest in the race, but then you have to finish it. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio has kept her word. In convincing fashion, she won the queen stage of the Tour of Romandie. A stage that was controlled from the beginning by Team SD Worx, on which Moolman-Pasio won the stage with a cabinet piece. At 2.5 kilometers from the top of the Thyon 2000, she left Annemiek van Vleuten on the spot, after which she triumphed solo. "I felt very strong all day, this is my first WorldTour stage win, so this victory is very special for me," she said.

During the women's world championships there was a race in the race. There was also a world U23 title to be won. Marlen Reusser is European ITT champion for the second consecutive time

Marlen Reusser has extended her European time trial title. The 30-year-old Swiss took off like a rocket and was the fastest over the 24 kilometre course with an average speed of 46.45 km per hour. At the finish line, she was 5.77 seconds faster than world champion Ellen van Dijk. Reusser thus became European time trial champion for the second consecutive time. "I'm very happy with this. I didn't have a great feeling during the race. That I can extend the title means a lot to me."

Marlen Reusser must continue to take a break after her concussion

A week after her fall in the Tour de France Femmes, Marlen is feeling a little better. The concussion she sustained in the fall is slowly easing, but the silver medallist of the Tokyo Olympics is still easily fatigued, suffers from headaches when exerting herself and can currently only train on the rollers in a light and darkened room.  Racing would be pointless and Marlen and Team SD Worx have therefore decided to cancel the planned start in Vargarda (6 and 7 August) and in the Tour of Scandinavia (9 - 14 August). Her next race is the European Championships in Munich, scheduled for 18 - 21 August. "I am still recovering from my concussion. I wish my teammates all the success and fun in the Team Time Trial. Thank you for all the kind messages. I hope to compete again at the European Championships to defend my title in time trial."

Lorena Wiebes signs a 3-year contract with Team SD Worx

Lorena Wiebes will be joining Team SD Worx next season. The 23-year old sprint star has signed a three year contract (2023-2025) with the Dutch team. Due to a clause in her contract with her current team, Team DSM, she could leave earlier if she received an improved offer from another team. Team DSM and Team SD Worx reached an agreement on the transfer after joint consultation.

Demi Vollering rides to a great 2nd place in Le Markstein and takes the mountain jersey

Demi Vollering was the only one who could stay in the track of an unleashed Annemiek Van Vleuten on the Petit Ballon. The latter imposed a murderous pace, after which Vollering had to let her go a col further on at one kilometer from the top of the Platzerwasel. The 25-year old rider of Team SD Worx then rode to a second place in the stage and in the general classification. She also takes over the mountain jersey. In Rosheim, Team SD Worx rode to a fourth place on the podium in this Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Lotte Kopecky was involved in a crash at about 22.5km from the finish, after which she sprinted to third place after Marianne Vos and Marta Bastianelli. "There was more in it for me. I got a bit boxed in, so I couldn't do my sprint fully," said the 26-year-old Belgian rider.

Marlen Reusser will not start in the seventh stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. A hospital examination revealed that the 30-year-old Swiss rider suffered a concussion after her crash in the sixth stage at 22 kilometres from the finish. Rest is therefore necessary to recover. Reusser was an important link in the Team SD Worx team. Last Wednesday she won the stage to Saint-Dié-Des-Vosgues.

In the third stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, the women of the classification were already battling it out in the hilly Champagne region. After the Côte de Mutigny, 15 kilometres from the finish, Team SD Worx was well represented at the front with Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and Demi Vollering in a group of seven. In the descent of this climb Vollering collapsed due to gravel on the road, but she was able to rejoin the front quite quickly. In the end Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio sprinted to third place in Epernay. "This is encouraging for what is to come," she says.

Our rider Amy Pieters had just before Christmas an unfortunate crash during a training ride on the bicycle with the Dutch national selection in Spain. Itzulia Women heralded the start of the second part of the season. The multi-day stage race began with a difficult opening stage, which was convincingly won by Demi Vollering. In Liège-Bastogne-Liège Demi Vollering and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio finished in third and fourth place, just like in the Flèche Wallonne. Annemiek van Vleuten proved to be the strongest and finished solo. "We couldn't close the gap on the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons. Unfortunately I missed some freshness," Demi Vollering said honestly afterwards.

REPORT: Demi Vollering finishes third in tough Flèche Wallonne

In the Flèche Wallonne Demi Vollering signed for Team SD Worx's 14th podium spot this season. The team always had control of the race in the first Ardennes classic. Despite the redrawn finale, the decision fell once again on the final climb of the Mur de Huy. There Marta Cavalli eventually won the duel with Annemiek van Vleuten. Demi Vollering finished third ten seconds later. "This was a really tough race, I'm completely empty," was Vollering's first reaction.

Who says Flèche Wallonne, mentions Anna van der Breggen in one breath. The former Olympic and world champion has won the Flèche Wallonne seven times in a row. The 2022 season is so far a dream year for Lotte Kopecky. Beforehand, the 26-year-old Belgian champion hoped to win one classic, but in the meantime the Strade Bianche and the Tour of Flanders are already on her palmares. Paris-Roubaix is also still on her wish list. "But that doesn't have to be this year. If I can do something for my teammates, I'll do it with pleasure."

Demi Vollering wins omnipotent in Brabantse Pijl

Team SD Worx strikes again. In a rainy and difficult Brabantse Pijl it was Demi Vollering who triumphed. With 30km to go, Vollering went on the attack with Pauliena Rooijakkers. With an ultimate acceleration on the Moskesstraat, Vollering also threw her only remaining competitor overboard. After a solo of about ten kilometres, Vollering triumphed, opening her account this season. "It's a really good feeling to have our first win."

REPORT: Demi Vollering finishes second in Amstel Gold Race

Team SD Worx coloured the Amstel Gold Race, but due to a surprising attack by Marta Cavalli on the spur of the Cauberg 1.7 kilometres from the finish, Demi Vollering had to settle for second place for the second year in a row. "Just at that moment Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and I were looking at each other for a second. Of course it's hard not to win again, but the podium is better than nothing," said the Dutchwoman after the finish.

Kopecky wins Tour of Flanders after Team SD Worx dominates the race

After the Strade Bianche, Lotte Kopecky won her second major victory in less than a month with the Tour of Flanders. The Belgian champion defeated Annemiek van Vleuten in Oudenaarde and thus has the Tour of Flanders, her dream race and first monument, in her pocket. The 26-year-old rider worked coolly through a sophisticated team plan, with a starring role for Chantal van de Broek-Blaak, who completed the podium. "I don't realise it yet. I just won the race of my dreams," Kopecky said in a first reaction.

For the first time, the women's peloton traverses the steep Flemish cobbled slope in a race. "On the Koppenberg you cannot win the Ronde, but you can lose the race there," is the conclusion within Team SD Worx.

REPORT: 4th place for Kopecky in Gent-Wevelgem

In Gent-Wevelgem, just like in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda and Brugge-De Panne, Team SD Worx had to be satisfied with a fourth place. The race was again hard fought, each time with attacks from the Team SD Worx camp, but in the end it was a sprint for the victory. Lotte Kopecky fell just short of the podium and finished after Elisa Balsamo, Marianne Vos and Maria Confalonieri. "I came into the wind too early and lacked speed," said the Belgian champion.

With Gent-Wevelgem, Team SD Worx is cutting the final straight for the Tour of Flanders. The race at Flanders Field lends itself to being hard and selective, a favourite technique of Team SD Worx. REPORT: Fourth place for Lonneke Uneken in Bruges - De Panne

Brugge - De Panne had a chaotic finale with a massive crash 15km from the end. Lonneke Uneken, the spearhead of Team SD Worx in the fourth WorldTour race of the year, was held up by this, so it took her energy to get back in the right position for the sprint. "Sad that I miss the podium," the 22-year-old Dutch rider said afterwards.

Numerical majority leads to places of honor in Trofeo Binda

Team SD Worx returned from the Trofeo Binda with a good feeling. In the third WorldTour race of the year, Chantal van den Broek-Blaak and Elena Cecchini finished fourth and fifth respectively. While world champion Elisa Bolsamo claimed victory in her home country, the team is disappointed that it was unable to catch the sprinters on the final lap.

In the Ronde van Drenthe Team SD Worx once again put in a strong performance, but also had some bad luck. No less than five flat tires and a worn out chain caused the team to lose energy early on, nevertheless the final was once again colored by Team SD Worx. Lotte Kopecky - who punctured herself about 15 kilometers from the line - finished third in the sprint. "Unfortunately I lost the right wheel in the sprint," said the Belgian champion.

First victory for Team SD Worx and Lonneke Uneken in Bloeizone Fryslân Tour

The stage was locked in for a long time, as the wind was not strong enough to create fans, but after the first passage of the local lap the peloton broke into pieces. Team SD Worx did not miss the train and was fully in front. The peloton would sprint for the win. Elena Cecchini provided a clever lead out and Lonneke Uneken finished it off. The first win of the season is a special one. "After a very difficult period, I'm very happy about this," Lonneke Uneken said. "This victory is for Amy. I hope it can give her and her family some strength."

The first Worldtour race is just around the corner with Strade Bianche. After an extremely successful 2021, expectations for Team SD Worx are high. Last year many important races were won and the season ended in a convincing first place in the UCI ranking. However, last winter multiple winner Anna van der Breggen traded in her bike for the team car. Nevertheless, Team SD Worx will not start the race dismantled. "Certainly not, we are very strong across the board. This season you won't be able to get around us either," assures sporting director Danny Stam.

The opening weekend is over. Team SD Worx hasn't won yet, but was at the forefront in both the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the Omloop van het Hageland. In Tielt-Winge, Elena Cecchini sprinted to fourth place after another strong team performance. "Unfortunately I couldn't keep up with Marta Bastianelli," she said.

Chantal van den Broek-Blaak to continue as a rider until 2024

Chantal van den Broek-Blaak has reconsidered her earlier decision to stop cycling after the spring of 2022. The 32-year-old former world champion has now decided that she will continue as a rider until the end of 2024. She did also indicate that she may have to take a break at some point as she is planning to have children. The Team SD Worx management welcomes Blaak's proposal and is looking forward to keeping her on the team.

Demi Vollering's contract with Team SD Worx has been renegotiated and extended until the end of 2024. Vollering's victories in Liège-Bastogne-Liège, La Course and the Women's Tour last season have shown that she is one of the best cyclists in the peloton.

Update Amy Pieters

Rider Amy Pieters is still being treated at a Dutch hospital after a fall during a training session in Spain right before Christmas several weeks ago. The Pieters family has received many questions about her condition, but for now they can report little change and they see the situation as uncertain. The cyclist is breathing independently, but is currently still unconscious.

Insurance company Yuzzu becomes an important sponsor of Team SD Worx as from next season. The Belgian company signed a contract with the best women’s team in the world for two years (2022-2023) with an option for an extra year (2024). “The arrival of Yuzzu enforces our ambition to remain the number one team in the world”, emphasizes team manager Erwin Janssen.
