The UCI cyclocross World Cup started with a highlight for Team SD Worx-Protime. Marie Schreiber rode a rock-solid race and crowned it with a well-deserved third place. In doing so, she took the win in the U23 category and immediately takes the lead in the U23 general classification. Blanka Vas only started from the third row and rode a real catch-up race to finish sixth. A great result in Antwerp, at a stone's throw from the headquarters of name sponsor SD Worx. ‘We can build on this.’

‘I got the most out of it,’ said an honest and cheerful Marie Schreiber. ‘My start was good and together with Fem Van Empel we had a gap on the chasing pack. I tried to follow her, but overcooked it in the process. Which caused me to make a mistake in the sand and Fem was gone. That I managed to follow at first gives me good hope for the future. I often have a lesser lap in the middle of the race. That was also the case now after 2.5 laps, when Lucinda Brand joined me. Then it's a matter of keeping some reserve for the important passages on the course so I don't lose too much time. I felt I couldn't follow Lucinda, so I focused on my own rhythm. It's not the end of the world that I can't follow these two riders yet. They are just super good. The last 2.5 laps I felt good again. I'm happy I managed to hold that third place until the end.’

‘This podium finish gives a lot of confidence. I know what to build on. If I maintain my strong start and can follow Fem just a little bit longer, I'm already taking another step. I also have to try to digest that worse middle section better and better. Technically, I made one or two mistakes when I was under pressure. But then when I rode alone, I did well technically. With this third place in a UCI World Cup, I already tick off an important goal for this season. I am in the lead in the U23 category, which is also a goal, as are the world championships. But that is still a long way off. If I can continue this curve, it will be a very nice winter,’ Schreiber said.

Blanka Vas could also look back on a strong race, said sport director Christian Kos. ‘Blanka did have some doubts beforehand whether it would be a cross for her or not. After all, she started quite far from the third row. Nevertheless, she started quite well and got to a position where she could overtake nicely. She eventually rode a fine catch-up race and crowned it with a nice sixth place. Marie Schreiber started again like a rocket. The idea was to hold back a bit in the middle section so she wouldn't go over the edge and would have something left at the end. This gives confidence heading into the next World Cup in Dublin.’
