Demi Vollering writes cycling history by winning all stages in first-ever Itzulia

"Bucket list material"

Three times is a charm. Demi Vollering made cycling history by winning all three stages in the first ever Itzulia Women. "Itzulia is a great race. Winning three stages in a row, that's insane."

Demi Vollering and Team SD Worx have come out on top in Itzulia Women. In the third stage the four-man team was unbeatable. On the final climb Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio imposed a high tempo, which allowed the leaders to be caught up. In the last steep kilometre Demi Vollering opened up the throttle. She created a gap and nobody was able to catch her back.

"I felt I had something left. I was actually waiting for one of my teammates to go, but I felt it was now or never. So I gambled on it. If it didn't work out, it was a nice opportunity for one of my teammates to try. But I immediately made a gap. "Now all I have to do is go downhill and I'll get there," I thought. I gave it all, but it was very difficult. When I heard I only had 14 seconds, I knew I had to squeeze everything out of it to keep it to the finish. I went full gass."

No one caught up with them and Vollering completed her hat-trick. Wins in three stages in as many days. "This is something I can cross off my bucket list. There were only four of us here, but four very strong climbers. This race was made for us with all those climbs. If I win here, it is thanks to my teammates. It is very cool to win this race for the first time ever. It gives a lot of confidence for the Tour de France," she concluded.

Demi Vollering not only won the general classification, but also the points classification. Niamh Fisher-Black won the youth classification and Team SD Worx was also the best in the team ranking. Talk about a successful weekend.
