After winning the Scratch race, Lorena Wiebes has now claimed the world title in the Omnium at the Track Cycling World Championships in Santiago de Chile. The 26-year-old Dutch rider rode a smart points race and secured the rainbow jersey in the final sprint — her fourth world title (2x Scratch, 1x Gravel, and 1x Omnium).

Lorena Wiebes: “I’m super happy to be Omnium World Champion. It was interesting to see how I would perform at the highest level. I’m satisfied with the entire day. What was the key to finishing it off? The final sprint in the points race was crucial. I had to stay focused and keep track of the situation, trying to score points in the sprints. Marion Borras cleverly gained a lap — she’s a very strong rider. So it was important to keep a cool head and concentrate on my last sprint. I went all out in the final lap. I’m proud to wear this rainbow jersey.”
