Lorena Wiebes has returned to winning ways upon her comeback to the WorldTour. In the Vuelta a Burgos, she was once again unbeatable in the sprint, also claiming the purple leader’s jersey. The Dutch champion was well protected by her teammates throughout the day. After a successful lead-out, Wiebes finished it off. It marks her first victory with the newly released Specialized Evade 4 helmet. “We are here for stage wins. The first one is already in the bag. This gives confidence for what is to come,” said Wiebes.
Lorena Wiebes: “This is the result of a great piece of teamwork. We were in control all day and had a good lead-out. There was a breakaway, but Elena Cecchini and Mikayla Harvey controlled it well. Then we still had a strong lead-out with Blanka Vas, Mischa Bredewold and Barbara Guarischi. When Shari Bossuyt started her sprint so early, I had to react immediately and go all in. It’s great to start an important racing block with a win.”
“This also gives us a lot of confidence for what’s to come. As a team, we are here with the goal of taking as many stage wins as possible in this Vuelta a Burgos. So tomorrow we will go all in again.”
