Lorena Wiebes has won the GP Oetingen for the third time in her career. The Dutch champion accelerated on the final hill and pulled away from the peloton. Only Fleur Moors was able to keep up. Wiebes started her sprint early and secured her fourth victory of the season for Team SD Worx-Protime. ‘This is a great victory. I was perfectly surrounded throughout the race, so it's nice to finish it off like this.’
"We executed our plan perfectly"
Lorena Wiebes
Lorena Wiebes: "It was in our plan to try to accelerate on the final climb. This was what we had agreed beforehand. We didn't want to miss any breakaways & be attentive in front. There weren't many attacks, but we were always alert and had Julia Kopecky in there when there was a breakaway attempt. On the final hill I accelerated & I only had Fleur Moors in my wheel. I didn't expect her to take a turn anymore. Why I didn't wait for the sprint? I also like to test myself & try it in another way. The GP Oetingen is an ideal race for that. It's great to win this race for the third time with an attack like that. I'm feeling good going into Milan-Sanremo, where we'll try to defend last year's victory with the team."
