Sports director Christian Kos: ‘Both Marie Schreiber and Blanka Vas are underdogs in their category, but on a top day they can become world champions’

‘Season is already successful, world title of one of our riders would be the icing on the cake’

The cyclocross season has its apotheosis this weekend with the World Championships. After a super final weekend in the World Cup, Blanka Vas is looking forward to the elite World Championships in Liévin with confidence and no pressure. Marie Schreiber is still recovering from a crash last weekend, but is hopeful for a good result in the U23 category. "I am proud of how both Blanka Vas and Marie Schreiber made important strides last cross winter. This season is already successful, but if one of them takes the world title, that will be the most beautiful apotheosis imaginable," said sports director Christian Kos. A preview with Blanka Vas, Marie Schreiber and Christian Kos.

Christian Kos: "Both Marie Schreiber and Blanka Vas have taken a big step this year. They are also finding a course that suits them both. I don't want to expect too much, but I am very positive. They definitely have a chance of becoming world champions on a good day. Neither is favourite. Marie Schreiber has shown she can beat Zoe Bäckstedt. Last week, Blanka Vas showed she can take on everyone on a good day."

"In order to optimise the cohesion between road and cross season, we deliberately chose to file this winter in terms of the number of crosses. By mainly only riding the World Cup races, the form peak of both riders falls just right. Both Blanka Vas and Marie Schreiber have thus made important strides in both disciplines."

"Last weekend was top for Blanka Vas. She came second in Hoogerheide for the second year in a row. That she was able to confirm after her win in Maasmechelen shows that she is in glowing form. It offers confidence and bodes well. She remains level-headed herself and does not see herself as a favourite. She can achieve a nice result. Marie Schreiber suffered a setback with her fall. So she too will not start as a top favourite, but she certainly has the qualities to become the U23 world champion. If either of them takes that jersey in their category, it will be the icing on the cake of a successful cross-winter for Team SD Worx-Protime
