Lorena Wiebes has yet again won a bunch sprint to her liking. The 25-year-old Dutch made it in a long sprint ahead of Elisa Balsamo to take her 20th win of the season. With this win, Team SD Worx-Protime equalled its successful 2023 season with 64 wins. ‘My teammates had worked hard all day. So I did feel the pressure to finish it off as well. I am happy that I managed to win the first sprint of the Simac Ladies Tour straight away.'

Lorena Wiebes: ‘We were not surprised by Ilse Pluimers’ breakaway. My teammates worked really hard in the chase. Things were moving fast, causing her lead to shrink considerably, but then it stayed at 30 seconds for a long time. In the end we caught her back just in time.’

'That did cost us part of our lead-out. I chose to stay in Lotte Kopecky's wheel. It was a tricky finish to time. You could see the finish line from far away and then it's important not to start too early. I waited maybe just a tad too long, but when I saw Elisa Balsamo go on, I went on too. I'm glad it worked out. This is a better start than last year. Whether I will also focus on the GC depends on how the rest of the week goes. Lotte Kopecky is closer in the standings as the defending champion. I can only win the GC if I win every sprint’ said Lorena Wiebes.
