As the women’s peloton gears up for the Tour de Suisse, Team SD Worx-Protime Swiss rider Steffi Häberlin is ready to tackle her home roads. Having joined the team at the start of the season after a strong mountain-bike career, Häberlin has settled in seamlessly and is now looking forward to racing the Tour de Suisse again, but this time in the colours of Team SD Worx-Protime.

How do you feel about the first half year in Team SD Worx-Protime?
“It’s been really good. I’m feeling happy. I feel already at home in the team and it’s amazing to ride alongside these ambitious and talented riders,” Häberlin reflects.

“We have a lot of faith in each other on and off the road. They helped and taught me a lot because coming front Mountainbike, it’s quite a difference to race on the road. The riders are really open and always available to help and give advice. So I’m really fortunate for the teammates I have and the team I’m in. I also dare to ask questions when needed and luckily there is always someone to help or support me.”

This year marks her first full season on the road. “I didn’t quite know what to expect,” she admits, “but I love it. One of the reasons I switched was to ride in a team, not solo all year. I raced a mountain-bike event a few weekends ago and had fun, but it also confirmed why I chose the road. Mountainbiking is you against you. Whereas with Team SD Worx-Protime you genuinely feel part of something and that’s what I love most. You’re never alone at the start line.”

“I had the opportunity to do some pretty big races this year like Strade Bianche and the Ardennes races. These were always dream races of mine. I never would have dreamed that I could already race them this year. It’s amazing and heartwarming to see the trust this team puts in me. Overall I was able to learn a lot in the past six months and make good progress.”

What do you think about the upcoming Tour de Suisse?
“Everything started there a year ago when I got noticed by Team SD Worx-Protime. Fast forward 12 months and I’m participating again but this time in the colours of this amazing team. It’s really nice to race the Tour de Suisse again. These are my homeroads that I know very well because of all the hours of training I spend on them. So it feels very good to race here for the next few days. There are a lot of opportunities in the stages for us as a team. We don’t have that one leader for this tour and that makes it interesting for all six of us. I would be very happy if I could ride a good Tour de Suisse. Maybe I can make a move if I would be in a breakaway but for sure I want to support the team to make the best out of it,” says Häberlin.

“It’s of course a big difference from last year because now I'm in a team where we can go for the win. Last year with the national team it was very different, but that’s normal. Now we have some more experienced riders and that’s great. With this team we have many options and I’m really looking forward to start this Tour.”

This is the line-up for Team SD Worx-Protime:
Blanka Vas, Mischa Bredewold, Femke Gerritse, Marta Lach, Steffi Häberlin and Mikayla Harvey.
