In the penultimate stage of the Tour de France Femmes, Demi Vollering shaved four seconds off Kasia Niewiadoma's lead. The defending champion crossed the line in third place, fuelled confidence and will go all-in tomorrow to hopefully win the yellow jersey on top of Alpe d'Huez. "Today was not tough enough to really make the difference. The race will be decided tomorrow. I will give everything I have in me," said Demi Vollering.

Demi Vollering: ‘I keep a good feeling about this ride to Le Grand Bornand. Physically, I felt good. I wasn't overly affected by the crash. The climb wasn't tough enough. It wasn't steep enough to make a difference. If you then ride continuously in front, everyone benefits. I attacked once to make Kasia Niewiadoma nervous. After that, she continuously looked behind her. I do draw confidence from this. The fact that I closed a small gap at the finish is good for confidence. Tomorrow, with the Col du Glandon and l'Alpe D'Huez, there are two tough and longer climbs on the programme. I hope to make a difference there. Now I have to focus on recovering well. I'm already going to give everything tomorrow. It's exciting.’

Sports manager Danny Stam: ‘We had hoped to gain a bit more time in today's stage, but the course was not difficult enough. It was good to see that Demi is in good shape. Two days after a bad crash, she is fighting with the best uphill. That is encouraging. We hope to take yellow on the final day and win the Tour de France. That would be very nice.’
