On Saturday, the very first Copenhagen Sprint takes place, and Team SD Worx-Protime has one goal: to sprint for the win. “Copenhagen Sprint—the name says it all: we’re going there to sprint,” laughs sports director Christian Kos. “Hopefully it will bring both the team and Lorena Wiebes another victory, as she is, of course, among the absolute world’s top sprinters.”

“A first edition is always challenging. It’s a new race, so you never quite know how it will unfold or what the course will really feel like. It looks flat, but there are short climbs that can spark attacks. Just like in the Tour of Britain, it’s never truly flat. We’re hoping for a classic sprint, but you can never underestimate Danish terrain.”

“We had some bad luck with Lorena in Britain and left with results below our expectations, but thanks to the final stage win there and her victory last weekend at Dwars Door Het Hageland, I know she’s in good shape. As a team, we’ll do everything we can to support and position her perfectly throughout the race.”

Kos concludes with confidence: “If it really turns into a sprinters’ fest as they promise, it could be just as spectacular as the Scheldeprijs—perhaps even the unofficial world championship of sprinting for women. Winning this inaugural edition would be fantastic for our palmarès. And if things go differently, we also have riders who can animate the race from a breakaway and go for the victory.”

This is the line-up for Team SD Worx-Protime:
Lorena Wiebes, Barbara Guarischi, Femke Gerritse, Femke Markus, Skylar Schneider and Blanka Vas.
