Kopecky best again at Tour of Britain

World champion does not need finish photo on day two

A day earlier a photo finish was needed to designate Lotte Kopecky as stage winner, this time there was no doubt and the world champion beat her fellow breakaway rider Anna Henderson in the second stage of the Tour of Britain by a wide margin. Lorena Wiebes completed the success for Team SD Worx-Protime by winning the sprint for third place. At 26 kilometres from the line, on the climb of Horseshoe Pass, Lotte Kopecky managed to force the decision. Only Henderson was able to join the overall leader. Kopecky went into the sprint from the head and kept Henderson behind.

"Yesterday it was very close in the sprint, but today it was different", Kopecky told us. "It was nice to be in the breakaway with Anna Henderson. I didn't expect her to get back in front in the last kilometre. I had no problem with that. I had scouted this final in the morning hours, so I knew what was coming. It wasn't a disadvantage to start in the lead."

Sports manager Danny Stam: ‘Even before this stage we had the goal of going for the GC with Lotte Kopecky. This stage and the climb of the Horseshoe Pass we had already pointed out then as an opportunity to gain time on the others. Lotte is showing that she is in good shape again and has taken an important step towards the overall win. Saturday normally awaits a stage for the sprinters where we hope to play off Lorena Wiebes. Sunday's final stage is tougher and similar to this one around Wrexham. There we will have to go full out to defend Kopecky's leader's jersey."

Kopecky is 17 seconds ahead of Anna Henderson and 34 seconds ahead of Letizia Paternoster in the standings after two stages.Wereldkampioene heeft op dag twee geen finishfoto nodig
