‘Very much looking forward to starting the second part of the season’

With the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas, Lotte Kopecky begins the second chapter of the season, where the final goal is the Tour de France Femmes. The world champion came out of the spring classics feeling ‘relatively fresh’ and then went into a training period. On her return to competition, she finds with Vuelta a Burgos Feminas a versatile round that should suit her. ‘The fact that there will be different courses appeals to me,’ she said.

Lotte Kopecky: ‘I am very eager to race again. I finished the spring with a relatively positive and fresh feeling. That fresh feeling was because I haven't raced as much this season. I took a week to let everything sink in mentally and then I immediately jumped back on the bike. Meanwhile, I have been in Spain for a week now, where I had a good training camp. And now follows Vuelta a Burgos, where I have fond memories.’

‘Why I like this round? It is a varied stage race with some climbing and an uphill finish, there is often a chance of echelons and since this year there is also a final time trial. So there is a bit of everything and that makes it fun. The first two stages might be a chance to score and the time trial should suit me as well. In the penultimate stage with the final climb Picón Blanco (7.8 kilometres at 9% average) I will mainly see how far I can get. That in itself is a first good measure with a view to the Tour de France Femmes.’

‘In the run-up to the Tour de France Femmes, there is actually not that much races, so I like to take every opportunity that presents itself. The signals at training are pretty positive, so we're going into it freely and will try to make the most of it. It also remains to be seen what condition the riders who rode the Vuelta Femenina are in. The fact is that the most difficult stage falls on Saturday, with the Picón Blanco as a very tough final climb. It is somewhere a question mark as to how I will digest it and that's precisely why it's a good test to see where I stand on such a difficult climb.'

‘The first two stages we have two very strong riders with Lorena Wiebes and me. We know perfectly what our job entails and have blind faith in each other. So we will see how we will play the cards. I might also have a chance in the final time trial. I'm looking forward to showing that European jersey. It's a distance I really enjoy doing. Although we will have to wait and see how I feel after three days of racing, but I will try to get the best possible result. In view of the Tour de France Femmes I can use good training work anyway. So I will go all out in the time trial anyway and then we'll see where the ship runs aground. I'm really looking forward to starting the second part of the season.’
