Lotte Kopecky is living confidently towards the big goal of the season: the World Championships in Glasgow

"World title would be crowning of a Super Season"

11/08/2023

2023 is a harvest year for Lotte Kopecky. Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, succeeded herself as winner in the Tour of Flanders, coloured the Tour de France Femmes with stage wins, six days in the yellow jersey, winner of the green jersey and second in the final classification. She kicked off the World Championships in Glasgow with two world titles on the track. By becoming world champion on the road, Kopecky could make it a Grand Cru year altogether. "At the beginning of the season, I had touted Glasgow as the big goal. The course suits me and the condition is good. This is a chance to win that coveted jersey," realises the 27-year-old Belgian.

Lotte Kopecky prepared for the continuous acceleration after the many turns of the World Championship course by riding some races with the men's juniors. "I am happy with this gruelling circuit in Glasgow. In addition, the Belgian team has become stronger compared to last year. Everyone will give two hundred per cent for the goal set. That offers confidence. Of course, we box up against strong countries like Italy and the Netherlands where I will meet my teammates Demi Vollering, Mischa Bredewold and Lorena Wiebes. At Team SD Worx we are very good teammates and even friends, but on Sunday we will ride in a different shirt. Then each will go full for his own goal. Of course I hope to become world champion. As a rider, you really want to wear that jersey one day. Whether it succeeds or not won't make or break my season, but it would be the absolute crowning achievement of a super year."

That she could continue her blood form after the Tour de France Femmes, she already showed at the track cycling world championships this week. In it, she took two world titles (elimination & points race) and bronze in the omnium. "That provides the extra confirmation that I came out of the Tour well and that the good condition is still there. My legs feel fresh. Even in the points race, the final number of the omnium, I still felt good. That's a nice feeling to take with me towards Sunday."
