Team SD Worx-Protime will race without pressure in Flèche Wallonne

‘Top favourites for Muur van Huy are not with us’

With classic victories in Milan-San Remo, Ghent-Wevelgem, Tour of Flanders and Amstel Gold Race, among others, Team SD Worx-Protime already has a successful spring season with thirteen wins. Next on the race calendar is Flèche Wallonne. "Elisa Longo-Borghini and Demi Vollering hold the best cards to triumph at the Mur de Huy. We will go into the race relaxed and look out for opportunities," said sports director Gian Paolo Mondini.

Team SD Worx-Protime will start in the Flèche Wallonne with Lotte Kopecky, Lorena Wiebes, Femke Gerritse, Mikayla Harvey, Steffi Häberlin and Anna van der Breggen. The seven-time winner of the Flèche Wallonne stepped down in the Amstel Gold Race last Sunday because she did not feel completely fit. "We hope Anna will come through. We can make good use of her experience in the Flèche Wallonne. She knows every corner of the course and knows all the tricks. Her course knowledge is of great value for us," said Gian Paolo Mondini.

‘But we don't have one of the top favourites in the Flèche Wallonne,’ the sports director continued. "You cannot ignore that Elisa Longo-Borghini and Demi Vollering are currently the best on this explosive finish. It is up to FDJ-Suez and UAE Team Emirates to control the race. They may not let another breakaway go. However, we are ready to play our cards."

"Either way, we are sending a team that can colour the race. Femke Gerritse has not yet missed a breakaway this season. Steffi Häberlin is also getting better and Mikayla Harvey is starting to get the positive effects of her altitude training. Lotte Kopecky's form is on an upward trend. But we should not put too much pressure on her. Lotte is mainly aiming for Liège-Bastogne-Liège. So we go into the race in a kind of relaxed way because the pressure is not on us. If the course is unpredictable, that plays into our hands," Mondini said.
