SD Worx and Protime extend contracts with women's cycling team until 2028

SD Worx and Protime have broken open their contracts as main sponsors of the women's cycling team and extended them through 2028; as a result, Team SD Worx - Protime will remain active in the peloton at least through 2028. "This proves the confidence that both main sponsors have in our team but certainly also in the further development of women's cycling," indicates team manager Erwin Janssen.

Since SD Worx has been the main sponsor of the women's cycling team, the team has won the World Championships, the Tour de France Femmes, the Tour of Flanders twice, Liege-Bastogne-Liege twice, Strade Bianche three times, the European Championships twice, Paris-Roubaix once, Amstel Gold Race once, the Flèche Wallonne twice and Ghent-Wevelgem twice. The team has maintained first place in the UCI team rankings all these years.

Kobe Verdonck, CEO SD Worx: "When we stepped in as sponsor in 2020, we had two major objectives: to give women's cycling extra oxygen to develop further and to significantly increase our name recognition internationally. Today we can look back on the past years with great satisfaction. We had already extended our commitment as main sponsor until 2026, now we announce that we will add two more years. Because we believe that additional steps can be taken, because we want to encourage young talent to develop further and because this partnership brings people together. This fantastic team deserves our long-term commitment, we look confidently to the future and are sure we will have some great moments together."

Gille Sebrechts, CEO of Protime: "We are pleased to extend our support of the SD Worx-Protime cycling team through 2028.  These amazing athletes with their determination and teamwork have many characteristics that align with our own Protime spirit. We are looking forward to being part of the growth process of this top team in order to continue pushing the boundaries of women's cycling every year as well."

Team manager Erwin Janssen is very pleased that both main sponsors have extended the contract with the team through 2028: "Together with SD Worx and Protime, we have already built up something very beautiful in recent years. It is also inspiring for us to see how the sponsorship of the cycling team is very much alive among the employees of both companies. It gives us a lot of energy that we already know that we can continue at the highest level for the next four seasons. In doing so, SD Worx and Protime also support our ambition to continue to be the number one team in the world in the coming years."

According to Janssen, the new contract with SD Worx and Protime is unique for women's cycling. "We are one of the few top teams in the peloton that focuses entirely on women's cycling. I think this is also part of our strength. Women's cycling has been on the rise tremendously in recent years. There is much more attention on the sport. Our main sponsors SD Worx and Protime are also anticipating that growth with us for the coming years."
 
Earlier, American bike brand Specialized also extended its contract with Team SD Worx - Protime through 2028. Meanwhile, top riders Lotte Kopecky and Lorena Wiebes have also broken open their contracts and remain loyal to the team through 2028. Just like sports manager Danny Stam who is the architect behind the many successes.

Stam: "I transferred to this team in 2014. From a modest talent squad, we grew the team into the best team in the world. For eight years we have been number one in the UCI rankings. It is wonderful that in SD Worx and Protime we have found two partners who share the ambition with us to remain number one in the world at least until 2028. It is well known; getting to the top is hard, but staying at the top is even harder many times over. I am proud of what we have achieved and grateful to the sponsors for all the confidence they have in us. The cycling team is a part of my life. Especially now that women's cycling is developing enormously and the competition is also getting stronger, it is a great challenge to remain the best team in the coming years."
