Lorena Wiebes entered the Dutch WorldTeam past the big gate: as the fastest woman in the world and the 2022 victory queen. "I knew that with Team SD Worx-Protime I was choosing a team that would not do everything to make every race end in a bunch sprint. I wanted to develop myself and be more than just a sprint star. That worked out quite well in 2023. I won less than the year before, but almost all of them were WorldTour victories. So quality over quantity. I feel I have taken steps and become a more complete rider. That I missed out on a number of goals due to injuries and illnesses makes me extra hungry for the new season."

Wiebes looks back on her first year with Team SD Worx-Protime, in which she took 13 wins. "The fact that we were immediately successful in the first sprint race in the UAE was a big relief. Beforehand, a lot of question marks had been raised by the outside world about my sprint train. It was nice that we could immediately prove that they were unjustified. One victory that will always stay with me is the third stage of the Vuelta a Burgos. The day before, I was disqualified. So I was extra keen to show that I could also win legitimately. It was a true cat-and-mouse game and for a long time and it looked like the breakaway would make it. But my team did so much work and in the end I came across in the last few metres.  The outburst of joy was huge. The team atmosphere in this squad is unique. I'm looking forward to working together again as a team to bend the games to our will in the upcoming season."

Sports manager, Danny Stam: "We had immediately been open with each other in the exploratory talks. I had told her that I very much wanted her as a sprint star in our team, but that we would not change our course style. After all, Team SD Worx-Protime makes the course hard. Lorena immediately indicated that this just appealed to her in our team. Racing together and taking victories together. People sometimes underestimate how important she has been in many of our victories. It already started in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, where she came second on the Muur van Geraardsbergen and then very dominantly protected Lotte Kopecky's attack. Even there you could see what a team player she is. Lorena can be very proud of her past season. She had quite some bad luck in some important goals where she wanted to be good, but she has become incredibly strong in the past season. She will reap the benefits of that in 2024."
