Lorena Wiebes has struck again at the Copenhagen Sprint. Just like last year, the Team SD Worx-Protime rider proved to be the fastest in the Danish capital, taking her tenth victory of the season after a strong team performance. On a course featuring local laps through the centre of Copenhagen, the team controlled the race perfectly before Wiebes once again showed her speed in the sprint.

Wiebes was full of praise for her teammates afterwards.
“I’m really happy with the win today. The team worked really hard all day and I’m very grateful for that. That was, of course, extra motivation for me to finish it off today,” said Lorena.

“Actually, the last laps were good. The team kept me well positioned at the front of the peloton. There was one rider in the breakaway at the end, but the team controlled it perfectly. That made it easier to stay in front. In the sprint, it’s always a bit hectic to find your way, but I found the space to go and then I just went for it and finished it off.

It’s really nice to come back like this after some disappointments over the last week. That gave me extra motivation today.”

The Dutch sprinter also pointed out that the organisation had made a real effort to improve safety compared to last year.
“I also have to say that, compared to last year, the roads on the local circuit were much safer. The organisation did an amazing job of pointing out all the dangerous sections so that the peloton could move through the city safely.”

Wiebes’ fondness for racing in Denmark is no secret. The country holds special memories for her, and after two straight wins in Copenhagen, she hopes to add another chapter next year.
“I hope I can come back next year and make it three out of three in the Copenhagen Sprint. I really like Denmark. I won my first world title on the track here, and I also became European champion as a junior here. So I have very good memories of this country and I’m always happy to be here.”

With this victory, Lorena Wiebes once again confirms her status as one of the fastest women in the peloton.
