Lorena Wiebes gives Team SD Worx-Protime a positive note after a slightly disappointing day

Stage six of the Tour de France Femmes was not exactly Team SD Worx-Protime’s day. The Dutch WorldTeam quickly saw Anna van der Breggen lose ground, ending her chances of a strong overall classification. However, there were still some positives. Nienke Vinke and Lotte Kopecky were both present at the front in the decisive breakaway, while Lorena Wiebes extended her lead in the green jersey competition. “It’s a pity that we just missed the decisive move, but it’s good that Lorena Wiebes was able to pick up more points for the points jersey,” said sports director Christian Kos.

Christian Kos: “Anna van der Breggen once again did not have her best day and faded during the stage. This was in line with our expectations after the opening stages, so it did not come as a surprise. As a result, we can now definitively put aside our general classification ambitions. Nienke Vinke and Lotte Kopecky both rode a very good race. Unfortunately, when the decisive split in the breakaway was made, none of our riders were in it. Nevertheless, we are pleased that Lorena Wiebes extended her lead in the green jersey classification.”

Lorena Wiebes: “It was a tough day. Fortunately, I managed to stay in the peloton for a long time. Afterwards, we took it easy in the gruppetto. Since it was formed quite late, we did not run into any problems with the time limit. Tomorrow is a big day for the general classification on Mont Ventoux. It will also be a difficult day for the sprinters to make the time limit. I’m still looking forward to stage eight, because there may be some sprint opportunities there. Although that will also be a difficult stage. The final stage is extremely tough as well. I’m happy with the record for the most days in the green jersey. It’s special to wear this jersey. I hope I can keep wearing it all the way to Nice.”
