“It’s great to build confidence ahead of the Tour de France Femmes”
Lorena Wiebes won every stage of the Tour of Poland. The Dutch sprinter was also the fastest rider in the bunch in the final stage. Thanks to her three victories, Wiebes also claimed the overall classification. Team SD Worx-Protime additionally won the team classification of the Tour of Poland. “Three wins out of three is always nice. This was the ideal race to regain some race rhythm ahead of the Tour de France Femmes.”
Lorena Wiebes: “The start of the final stage was less hectic than yesterday. There were fewer attacks and it took quite a long time before a real breakaway was formed. After that, Lisa Van Belle and Marta Lach took control, and we had agreed that Femke Gerritse, Barbara Guarischi and Lotte Kopecky would focus entirely on the lead-out for the sprint. That worked well. The pace was high and we were able to finish it off nicely with such a strong lead-out.”
“The Tour of Poland was ideal for regaining race rhythm after my altitude training camp in preparation for the Tour de France. We are heading into the Tour with a lot of confidence, although the level of competition there is naturally higher and the course is a different story as well. This week, we will put the finishing touches on our training to be ready for the start of the Tour.”
“Three victories from three stages is, of course, fantastic. It was also really nice to stand on the final podium with the team as the best team in the race. That was not something we specifically focused on beforehand, but a victory like that as a team is always special,” Wiebes concluded.
