“A great way to conclude my road season with SD Worx-Protime”

Lorena Wiebes delivered a hat-trick at the Tour of Chongming Island. The Dutch rider won all three stages and therefore also secured the overall classification. In addition to the yellow leader’s jersey, she also won the points and mountains jerseys. Once again, Lorena Wiebes proved unbeatable this road season, collecting 24 victories. “It’s great to conclude the 2026 road season with a successful trip to China,” said Wiebes, who is now travelling to the Track World Championships in Shanghai together with Lisa van Belle.

Lorena Wiebes: “This was another good day. We tried to secure the polka-dot jersey with Lisa van Belle. She attempted to surprise Sofie van Rooijen by coming from behind, but Van Rooijen spotted it quickly and responded. I then took the sprint to keep the mountains jersey within our team. In that classification, Lisa and I finished first and second."

"After that, we maintained good control of the race. There was an attack, but Femke Markus managed it well. The other teams had their sights set on the intermediate sprint and closed the gap. We knew there would be more attacks afterwards. One more breakaway went clear, but Femke Markus and Femke Gerritse controlled it well. That left Lisa van Belle, Barbara Guarischi and me in the sprint train. I briefly lost them in the chaos, but just before the final corner I found them again. We decided to use Lisa as the final lead-out rider. Barbara initiated the lead-out, and Lisa then delivered me perfectly once again. It’s great to finish this successful trip to China with a third victory.”

Sports Director Christian Kos: “This was the best day of the three from our team. Stage victory, overall victory and wins in both the points and mountains classifications. We had made it a goal to keep the polka-dot jersey within our team as well. In the event of a tie in the mountains classification, the final general classification was the deciding factor. The solution was therefore for Lorena Wiebes to take the sprint, which allowed us to keep the polka-dot jersey within the team too. It was just one example of how well the team worked together throughout the day. Femke Gerritse and Femke Markus ensured we maintained control all day, and the lead-out train also did its job perfectly. We can look back on this Tour of Chongming Island with satisfaction.”
