Lorena Wiebes dominant once again in the UAE Tour

After her stage win in the opening stage, Lorena Wiebes once again proved her dominance by also winning the second stage of the UAE Tour. Wearing the red leader’s jersey, the Dutch national champion from Team SD Worx – Protime hit the turbo in the final 200 metres and claimed victory by several bike lengths.

The second stage in the Emirates was marked by major chaos in the finale. “Precisely because the pace was very calm in the final twenty kilometres, the last kilometre turned into a fierce battle,” Wiebes reflected. “In the final five kilometres the speed was very high, and because the road was very wide, an extreme amount was happening.”

“I wanted to be in position before the corner 1.2 kilometres from the finish, but that didn’t work out. We also weren’t well positioned going into the final corner, but in the end I trusted Barbara Guarischi.”

Guarischi did a fantastic job and guided Wiebes perfectly to the front. “I had to start my sprint early, but in the end that worked out very well. Last year I won three stages here. In the third stage I can now aim to complete that trilogy again. We’ll do everything we can to make it another sprint finish.”
