Lorena Wiebes makes it three out of three at the UAE Tour

Lorena Wiebes has started her 2026 cycling season with three victories in three races. After stage wins in the first two stages of the UAE Tour, the Dutch champion of Team SD Worx – Protime was once again the fastest in the third stage to Abu Dhabi Breakwater.

“It was another chaotic sprint. Our tactic was for me to stay on the wheel of my lead-out rider, Barbara Guarischi, but with one and a half kilometres to go I lost her wheel. From that point on I had to find my own way and position myself well. Luckily, I found a few openings. The headwind made it a tough sprint, but I’m happy to have won here again. The team once more did a fantastic job, because we had to chase the early breakaway all day.

With three wins in the first three stages of the UAE Tour, I’ve once again started my season very successfully. Just like last year, I’ve managed to win three stages here in the Emirates. I can only be happy with that, and it gives me huge motivation for the rest of the season.

On Sunday, in the final stage, we’ll be backing Anna van der Breggen. The finish is on the challenging climb of Jebel Hafeet. It’s the first uphill finish, so it’s still a bit of a question how her legs will be, but over the past few days she’s made a strong impression.”
