Lotte Kopecky, Anna van der Breggen and Lorena Wiebes to compete in the Giro d'Italia

25/06/2025

Team SD Worx-Protime will start with world champion Lotte Kopecky, European champion Lorena Wiebes, Anna van der Breggen, Mikayla Harvey, Steffi Häberlin and the two home riders Elena Cecchini and Barbara Guarischi in the Giro d'Italia.

"We are not starting with a big ambition to win the overall classification in the Giro, but when we can force a good starting position, we are not going to miss such a great opportunity. Because of this approach, a number of riders have a freer role to be able to go for stage wins," said sports manager Danny Stam, going through the selection.

Lotte Kopecky

Danny Stam: “Lotte Kopecky will ride the Giro d’Italia in preparation for the Tour de France Femmes. The overall classification in France is her main goal. The Giro is a great race on the way to peak form in the Tour. In Italy, we will not put any pressure on Lotte to perform in the general classification. There is a lot of climbing in this Giro d'Italia. Of course, she will undoubtedly choose a stage where she wants to dominate, but otherwise the aim is for her to build confidence ahead of the Tour de France Femmes."

Lorena Wiebes

‘Lorena Wiebes is having a great season. If there are sprint opportunities in this Giro d'Italia, then we obviously have a strong trump card in Lorena. It's always nice to race with her as a top sprinter. With all those climbs in the Giro, it will also be a tough race for her, but knowing Lorena, she will definitely try to peak a number of times.’

Anna van der Breggen

“Anna van der Breggen has gained a lot of confidence with her third place and stage win in the Vuelta a España Feminina. In the Giro, she may have some cautious ambitions for the general classification, although the Giro is also preparation for the Tour de France Femmes for her. Her main goal is to support Lotte as best she can in France. With a view to preparing well for the Tour, she will definitely want to test her legs in the Giro and then see how that works out for the final classification."

Steffi Häberlin

“Steffi Häberlin and Mikayla Harvey have a free role. Because there is no real pressure to finish high in the general classification, this Giro is the ideal race to see what they can achieve when they race more freely. The course also lends itself to many breakaways and seeing what they can achieve from there. It's Steffi's first full season on the road. That comes with ups and downs, which is logical. But she's a quick learner. She has already shown several times in Spain, and particularly in the Vuelta a Burgos, that she can play a significant role in the finals. We hope to continue that trend in the Giro."

Mikayla Harvey

‘Harvey also has a free role in this Giro d'Italia. It's up to her to be in the breakaways and show herself in that freer role. You will definitely see a motivated Mikayla at the start. The Giro has always been special to her. This is a race that has always suited her well in the past. She loves this race. So that provides extra motivation.’

Barbara Guarischi

“Barbara is a pawn you can always count on. She will of course be at the start as road captain. She is also Lorena Wiebes' right-hand woman. So if it comes down to a sprint, Barbara Guarischi is a powerful weapon. Barbara and Lorena work really well together as a duo. For an Italian, the Giro is also extra special.”

Elena Cecchini

“Elena has been our road captain for years and has helped lay the foundation for many victories. She also has the freedom to be part of breakaways. She is also riding the Giro to dot the i's and cross the t's for the Tour de France Femmes. She also did the altitude training in Livigno with Lotte, Anna and Mikayla.”
