Team SD Worx-Protime is experiencing a beautiful week with wins in Milan-Sanremo and Brugge-De Panne. Ghent-Wevelgem is the third WorldTour race of the week. Team SD Worx-Protime will start with a very strong six to hopefully win this beautiful classic for a third time in a row. ‘This race suits us and we have several cards to play’, sports manager Danny Stam comments.

Team SD Worx-Protime is in a good flow. Already, the Dutch World Team managed to score nine wins. Lorena Wiebes is responsible for six of them, including Milan-Sanremo and Brugge-De Panne. ‘Lorena is in super shape. The way she won in Brugge-De Panne was impressive. This was a great win for the team and gives a lot of motivation for the upcoming spring classics,’ Stam said.

Lorena Wiebes: ‘I will do everything I can as an outgoing winner to go for the win again. It makes a difference that I have already won Gent-Wevelgem once. That takes some of the pressure off. That it could be my hundredth win? It is a nice milestone. But when I will get that hundredth, is not something that is continuously on my mind. I come to every race with the motivation to win. As a team we are also among the big favorites in Ghent-Wevelgem. The flow is really good. So hopefully we can continue this good line in the coming month.’

Sports manager Danny Stam: ‘That we can win a third WorldTour race in a row in Gent-Wevelgem? That would be fantastic, but the competition is lurking. Until now, we could often put the races to our hand, but one race is not the other. Each time you start from scratch. Gent-Wevelgem is a race that suits us though, witness Marlen Reusser's solo win in 2023 and Lorena Wiebes' sprint victory last year. We are also among the contenders for a win now with a strong group including Lorena Wiebes, Lotte Kopecky and Mischa Bredewold.’

‘Gent-Wevelgem is just a bit lighter than the really tough Tour of Flanders, but it is a great rehearsal. We hope for selective weather. We do feel like making the race hard. There are some points where everyone knows the race can break open. If there is wind, there could be echelons in the Moeren. But the big point where the selection is made is still the Kemmelberg. So chances are everyone will be cautious towards the Kemmelberg. The nice thing about this race is that many scenarios are possible. So it can go either way: a solo, a breakaway or a bunch sprint. With this group, we are armed on every level,’ Stam concludes.
